T.O. restates support for Vick's unhindered return
PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- After creating some buzz Sunday morning with his comments on Michael Vick's situation, Buffalo Bills receiver Terrell Owens didn't back away Monday.
Owens reiterated his stance that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell should not punish Vick any more. Vick recently completed a 23-month federal prison sentence for his role in a dogfighting enterprise.
"I just want everyone to give him a break," Owens said after practice at St. John Fisher College. "He's well-deserving of another opportunity. The guy's spent two years in prison. This is not just in jail. He's done Fed time.
"Public opinion, everybody's wanting him to get another chance without the four-game suspension. What more can you ask of a guy that has sat behind bars for two years?"
While I understand Owens' feelings on the subject, he is out of touch with public opinion if he actually believes there's overwhelming support that Vick be granted unconditional re-entry to the NFL. There is plenty of debate raging on the topic.
But Owens said Bills safety George Wilson, the NFLPA player rep, stopped by his St. John Fisher dorm room Sunday night to talk about it.
"He agreed with what I had to say," Owens said.
So does Tony Dungy. The former Indianapolis Colts coach, who met with Vick in prison, told Dan Patrick on Monday that Vick has been punished enough.
"I tend to agree with Terrell Owens on this," Dungy said. "I feel like he's missed 32 games already and missed a ton of money."
