The guillotine has fallen on the New York Jets' last practice day on Long Island.

The Jets announced they've lopped five players off the roster. RB Musa Smith was the most notable cut. The Jets also waived T Thaddeus Coleman, DB Ron Girault and RB Rodney Kinlaw and placed LB Jason Trusnik on injured reserve.

The Jets signed Smith on May 27, but he couldn't find room in a crowded backfield that includes Thomas Jones, Leon Washington and Jesse Chatman.

Smith spent four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. His only career start came last year. In 49 career games he has rushed for 496 yards and four touchdowns and caught 54 passes for 363 yards.
