Just what the Buffalo Bills needed to get their offense on track: A trip to Heinz Field to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday night.

The Bills' first-team offense has failed to produce a preseason touchdown on nine series. They also have a poor track record against 3-4 defenses. Yes, the Super Bowl champs operate out of a 3-4.

Here are the numbers for Buffalo's first-string offense so far:
  • Against the Tennessee Titans in the Hall of Fame Game, they stayed on the field for one series, nine plays, 50 net yards and an interception.
  • Against the Chicago Bears, the Bills' first team played three series, 25 plays, 108 yards and produced punt, punt, field goal.
  • Against the Green Bay Packers' 3-4 defense, Bills starters went five series for 24 plays, 50 yards and interception, fumble, punt, fumble, punt.

That's 58 plays for 208 yards, two interceptions, a fumble and a field goal.

The average possession has lasted 6.4 plays and gained 23 yards.

Star receiver Terrell Owens will miss his third straight exhibition Saturday, but the Bills also have been playing with Pro Bowl running back Marshawn Lynch, who will be suspended for the first three regular-season games.

Bills coach Dick Jauron was asked Thursday about the confidence level of quarterback Trent Edwards and the rest of the offensive starters.

"I would hope that they have confidence," Jauron said. "We've played three games, and the last one was a big disappointment for us. The first two we moved the ball. The last one in the second half we moved the ball.

"I think they just have to execute. I don't think that they're questioning themselves. I don't think so. But if we need confidence we surely better gain it fast because the season is coming real fast."
