| Faulk |
The NFL has suspended New England Patriots RB and co-captain Kevin Faulk for the Sept. 7 regular-season opener and fined him an extra game check as punishment for marijuana possession.
The Patriots likely won't miss Faulk. They open against the Kansas City Chiefs. Laurence Maroney and LaMont Jordan will suffice for that game -- and most others.
Faulk was arrested in his native Louisiana while attending a Lil Wayne concert. Faulk had four hand-rolled cigars that contained marijuana. In July, he pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charges. He was placed on probation and was given a suspended five-month jail sentence.Faulk's NFL suspension will begin today. He'll be allowed to report back to the Patriots on Sept. 8.
In our recent NFL preview package, I named Faulk New England's most unheralded player.
Unless the NFL looks solely at the judge's verdict in a court case, Patriots T Nick Kaczur should be next in line for an NFL suspension.
Kaczur was arrested in Upstate New York in April for illegally possessing a profuse amount of OxyContin pills. He agreed to participate in a sting operation and had his charges reduced to a speeding ticket.
