Could the New York Jets keep four quarterbacks?

If not, who will they cut?

ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network are reporting the Jets have acquired former New England Patriots quarterback Kevin O'Connell from the Detroit Lions. NFL Network is reporting the Jets gave up an undisclosed draft pick to get him.

O'Connell certainly will serve as a spy when the Jets and Patriots meet at the Meadowlands in Week 2.

The Jets were one of four teams to put in a waiver claim on O'Connell last week, but the Lions had priority and snagged him.

The Patriots surprisingly gave up on O'Connell one week ago. He was a third-round draft pick in 2008 and served as the primary backup to Matt Cassel last year.

It will be interesting to see what the Jets' next move is at quarterback. Head coach Rex Ryan has lauded the preseason play of Erik Ainge, and Kellen Clemens is entering the final year of his contract and almost certainly won't be back in 2010.

But would Ryan be so bold as to cut Clemens, leaving only a pair of second-year quarterbacks with a combined six NFL pass attempts between them as insurance for rookie Mark Sanchez?
