Junior Seau wants to play for the New England Patriots again.
Just not right now.
The Patriots might be in the market for an inside linebacker after Jerod Mayo hurt his knee Monday night. But Seau won't be replacing him -- not at the moment, anyway.
"I have my phone open in November and December for the Pats if they need help," Seau said Thursday on Sirius NFL Radio. "That’s about it. I'm not waiting for the call.
"I'm just letting them know that. They understand that if they need any help going further into the postseason or in the midst of December, which is a crucial time. ... I'll be able to look at it and we'll assess that as that happens.”
Adam Schein, host of "The Sirius Blitz," asked if the Patriots had contacted Seau since Mayo's injury.
"Nah, this is too early," Seau replied. "This body can give you six games, but that’s about it.
"They're not even thinking about it, put it that way. They’ve got enough athletes that can fill the void until Mayo gets back, I’m pretty sure."
The 12-time Pro Bowler returned to the Patriots in December and played in their last four games. He started the last two, making 10 tackles in the finale.
Seau, who will turn 41 in January, said he continues to work out four days a week.
