| Trent Edwards has done a solid job for the Bills in the first two weeks of the season. |
With another efficient performance to help the Bills beat the Buccaneers 33-20 in Ralph Wilson Stadium, Edwards ranks fourth in the NFL with a 104.9 passer rating. Ahead of him are Drew Brees, Brett Favre and Matt Ryan.
With on-the-fly offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt calling the plays and Edwards executing them, the Bills should be 2-0 and tied with the New York Jets atop the AFC East. Those other quarterbacks listed are on 2-0 teams.
The offense has looked nothing like the unit that failed to score a single touchdown on 16 preseason possessions. Running back Fred Jackson has been a workhorse. He rushed for a career-high 163 yards, and that helped give Edwards options in the passing game.
He completed 21 of 31 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns -- one apiece to Terrell Owens and Lee Evans -- with one interception.
"What are we going to run at them?" Edwards said. "If they're going to drop into coverage, we're going to run the ball with Fred Jackson. If they're going to drop down, we're going to throw the ball up top.
"It gives us great balance and Alex the freedom to do whatever he needs to do and a balanced attack is a pretty hard one to stop."
