A look back at the AFC East's first four-game weekend through the eyes of the columnists who wrote about them.
New York Jets 24, Tennessee Titans 17
- Newsday's Bob Glauber looks at Mark Sanchez and doesn't see a rookie anymore -- even though he has played only three NFL games.
- New York Daily News scribe Gary Myers writes "When Sanchez lowered his head instead of sliding and ran through Titans safety Michael Griffin at the 2-yard line and spun into the end zone, reaching the ball over the goal line, the players officially knew the kid was for real."
- Steve Politi of the Newark Star-Ledger thinks "The training wheels are off already. Sanchez is charging right at the rest of the NFL now, with the Jets racing right behind him."
- While most everybody else was focusing on the quarterback, Mike Vaccaro from the New York Post credited the Jets' steadfast defense for Sunday's victory.
- The Boston Globe's Bob Ryan explains why it's OK to say the Patriots are a work in progress.
- Providence Journal columnist Jim Donaldson breaks down everything that went right -- finally.
- WEEI.com's Christopher Price mulls 10 things we learned about the Patriots on Sunday.
- Ron Borges of the Boston Herald claims the reason the Patriots won was because the Falcons dared Tom Brady to beat them.
- Buffalo News columnist Jerry Sullivan feels badly for all those fans who forked over cash to witness Terrell Owens' impact on the offense.
- BuffaloRumblings.com overlord Brian Galliford provides an insightful analysis of why the Bills' performances have been so disconcerting.
- The namesake of ScottPitoniak.com gives an unfavorable review of the Bills' offense. He writes Trent Edwards "clearly took a step backwards Sunday. He reverted to his Captain Checkdown mode where too many of his passes were of the short and medium range."
- Patrick Moran of Buffalo Sports Daily examines the Bills' dubious decisions at offensive tackle.
- Stephen Brunt of the Globe and Mail writes "All bets are off, though, if the worst of the T.O. circus marches into town, and right now you can hear the elephants rumbling through Tonawanda."
- Aside from the uniforms, the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero doesn't recognize the Dolphins this year.
- Dave Hyde of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel writes "The worst part is the season isn't over because of [Chad] Pennington's injury. It was over even without it. His injury is just an extended metaphor for how everything that went right for the Dolphins a year ago has gone stone, cold wrong for them in this 0-3 start."
- Palm Beach Post columnist Dave George writes Chad Henne "is a grab bag of possibilities," who "knows just enough to be dangerous."
- The Sun-Sentinel's Ethan J. Skolnick hands out some grades on the Dolphins' performance.
