Pats add Jordan to backfield

Even with Laurence Maroney and Sammy Morris healthy, the New England Patriots clearly weren't enamored with the makeup of their backfield.

The Patriots, coming off an epic offensive season, announced this afternoon they've signed former Raiders RB LaMont Jordan. The Raiders axed him on Friday. He was in Foxborough, Mass., today.

Jordan rushed for 1,025 yards and nine TDs two years ago. The Raiders drafted Darren McFadden and also have Justin Fargas.

ESPN.com's Bill Williamson reported Friday that the defending AFC champs also were interested in ex-Bronco Mike Bell. The Broncos released Bell on Monday.
