As we mentioned earlier Wednesday in the AFC East blog, New York Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow made the list of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people. The New York Jets backup quarterback joined the likes of politicians, heavy hitters in the financial world and popular entertainers.

But another thought came to mind on Wednesday: Is Tebow's celebrity growing out of control? This may be proof that is the case.

Being among Time's 100 most influential people in the world is a huge honor. Tebow was just one of three athletes to make the list and the only NFL player. But Tebow did not ask for this acclaim. He's a good person who is strong in his beliefs. But the fact that he played quarterback for a major Division I program, won a National Championship and was eventually was drafted in the first round in the NFL put him in the spotlight.

Going to New York, our nation's biggest media market, will only increase Tebow's celebrity. The Jets not only took in Tebow the football player, but they are taking in the circus that comes with him.

Many of our readers in the AFC blog have been vocal about Tebow since the Jets made the trade with the Denver Broncos. A majority, from what I've seen, are not happy with the vast amount of Tebow coverage we've provided in the blog and across other ESPN platforms. So much was the case that I made a joke about it recently before I went on vacation.

But what cannot be denied is Tebow pulls on the heartstrings of a lot of people -- and that equates to influence. Using our SportsNation poll, vote on whether you think Tebow's celebrity is growing out of control. You can also share your thoughts in the comment section below.
