The Buffalo Bills are awful.

The further away we get from what should have been a monumental victory over the New England Patriots on opening night, the more irrelevant it becomes to even mention it.

What transpired Sunday in Land Shark Stadium must give Bills owner Ralph Wilson pause about his entire organization, which fielded a team that couldn't compete against a winless Miami Dolphins team missing its two most important players.

The Dolphins won 38-10 without quarterback Chad Pennington and outside linebacker Joey Porter. Pennington is out for the season with a shoulder injury. Porter was scratched because of a nagging hamstring problem.

Does Dick Jauron last until Halloween?

True, the Bills were missing several starters themselves. Three-quarters of their starting secondary was gone, but the Dolphins gashed them for 250 rushing yards.

The Bills had 46 rushing yards even though Pro Bowl running back Marshawn Lynch returned from a three-game suspension and Fred Jackson went into the game second in the NFL in yards from scrimmage.

Lynch: eight carries for 4 yards. That's not a misprint.

Trent Edwards completed three passes to Terrell Owens, two to Lee Evans. Edwards threw three interceptions, one of which rookie Vontae Davis returned 23 yards for a touchdown.

The Bills were overwhelmed because they have no depth.

Their offensive line, inexperienced to start the season and now even younger and less talented because of injuries, was trampled. The Bills got rid of last year's starting tackles, trading two-time Pro Bowler Jason Peters and cutting Langston Walker. Both of this year's starting tackles are missing.

The Dolphins recorded six sacks. Canadian Football League import Cameron Wake, a healthy scratch the first two games, had three sacks.

Ronnie Brown ran for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Ricky Williams had 85 yards and one touchdown.

Second-year Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne made his first NFL start and looked decent, going a Pennington-esque 14 of 22 for 115 yards and one touchdown with zero interceptions.
