Morning take: Mixed reaction for Coples

It was an interesting Day 1 of the NFL draft.

Here are the most interesting stories Friday morning in the AFC East:

Morning take: The Jets got decent value here. The issue is whether Coples will be a better defensive end than Melvin Ingram, who went two spots later. Coples' motor is a major question for New York.

  • Unlike the Jets, the Buffalo Bills make the safe pick at No. 10 with cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Morning take: Gilmore's abilities and character are well-defined. He will be a good overall addition to a revamped defense that also added defensive ends Mario Williams and Mark Anderson.

Morning take: One way to improve a poor pass defense is to get to the quarterback. New England was inconsistent in that area and should improve with first-rounders Chandler Jones and a physical Dont'a Hightower inside.

  • Will rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill get time to develop with the Miami Dolphins?

Morning take: The Dolphins' brass was non-committal Thursday night. But Miami most likely will let Tannehill learn the NFL game for a year behind veterans Matt Moore and David Garrard.
