Mark Sanchez is a rookie after all.
The New York Jets quarterback looked every bit his 22 years Sunday in the Superdome. Their defense played another solid game, but the New Orleans Saints capitalized on multiple Sanchez mistakes to win 24-10 in a game between undefeated teams.
Sanchez committed four turnovers -- three interceptions and a sack -- to let the Saints' defense outscore their offense. Darren Sharper returned a Sanchez interception 99 yards. Remi Ayodele recovered a Sanchez fumble in the end zone.
The Sanchise was 14 of 27 for 138 yards and no touchdowns in his first professional loss. He also committed an immature penalty on Sharper's return. Sanchez tried to take out Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma's knees.
Thomas Jones scored the Jets' lone touchdown, a 15-yard run in the third quarter, but the listless run game didn't have much of an impact again. Jones had a team-high 48 yards, and even with his nice touchdown run averaged 3.7 yards per carry.
The Jets ran for 132 yards, but Sanchez had 24 of them and Brad Smith gained 20 more on Wildcat-style direct snaps. Shonn Greene made his debut and ran four times for 23 yards.
New York's defense limited New Orleans to six plays or fewer on six of 10 possessions. Drew Brees threw for 190 yards and no touchdowns.
The Jets are tied with the Patriots atop the AFC East standings at 3-1.
