DAVIE, Fla. -- The timing of the NFL draft has been off in the first two rounds. The picks are coming in faster on social media than they are on television.
That combination created a strange draft moment for former Stanford offensive tackle Jonathan Martin. The Miami Dolphins' second-round pick was informed well before the broadcast announced his pick. So much was the case that Martin already was on a conference call with the South Florida media before the pick was shown on television.
During the conference call, Martin's pick was officially announced on television and his family and friends cheered loudly, which interrupted the interview. The broadcast later showed Martin on the phone live with the media. He quickly put the phone down for a few minutes to enjoy his draft moment with his family. Then, Martin continued his telephone interview once the cameras stopped in what was an awkward draft moment.
