Morning take: Big day for Wes Welker

Here are the most interesting stories Monday morning in the AFC East:
  • After months of discussion, it is time for the New England Patriots and Pro Bowl receiver Wes Welker to agree on an extension or play on the one-year franchise tag.
Morning take: Most expect today's 4 p.m. ET deadline to pass without an extension. The Patriots seem comfortable with Welker, 31, signed for just one year. But both sides will talk up to the last minute to see if anything changes.
  • The Buffalo Bills are seeking an "ironclad" lease that will keep the team in Western New York for at least the next 10-15 years.
Morning take: Buffalo's lease runs out next year around this time, and the team needs to have more than a Band-Aid solution. Both sides have been working hard. I don't think it's time to worry just yet.
Morning take: It shouldn't be too difficult. The important thing is Miami has the personnel to make the switch. It's also easier than learning a 3-4 scheme.
  • New York Jets third-string quarterback Greg McElroy is excited for a fresh start in a new offense.
Morning take: McElroy's rookie year was known for injuries and commenting on the team's locker-room issues. He is a smart player who is looking forward to a better and quieter sophomore season backing up Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow.
