Rob Ryan doesn't think much of Trent Edwards

I guess this is what passes for trash talk before a game between teams with a combined 1-7 record.

|Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan had some not-so-kind words for Trent Edwards.|
But before you read the comments, let me warn you they're not exactly Rex Ryan-Channing Crowder quality. Rob Ryan's impersonation of his twin brother is milder, although the proper tone is there.
The lead sports item on the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Web site quotes Rob Ryan:
"I don't think that's [Bengals quarterback] Carson Palmer back there by any stretch."
"Absolutely, he's not. Not too many quarterbacks are. The guy can run and do some things, but we've played Brett Favre. We've played Carson Palmer. Those are two pretty good quarterbacks right there. This guy [Edwards] always seems to have a lot to say, so I'm going to say the same thing. Let's go. Let's get it on, see what he's all about this week."
The reason Rob Ryan's comments are newsworthy have more to do with the fact an assistant coach, especially one from an Eric Mangini staff, said something less than diplomatic about an opposing player.
Fact is, Edwards is not as good as Palmer, a Heisman Trophy winner and two-time Pro Bowler.
The article, by Plain Dealer beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot, then explores whether Edwards said anything incendiary last season after the Bills defeated the Oakland Raiders, where Rob Ryan was the defensive coordinator. Edwards threw for a career-high 279 yards, including 177 in the fourth quarter.
Rob Ryan was asked if that game was the source of his dislike for Edwards. Rob Ryan said it was, sort of, but didn't elaborate.
"You know, I think you might be right there," he said. "I respect the game. I love the players in this game. They can say whatever they want to say. Yes, we played them last year. He did a good job."
