Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill was thought to be the least NFL-ready quarterback in the first round. However, when you compare the preseason numbers, Tannehill had a debut that stacks up with any quarterback in his class.

Tannehill completed 14-of-21 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown. Tannehill looked composed and in control of Miami’s new West Coast offense. By all measures, it was a successful debut for Miami’s No. 8 overall pick.

Tannehill’s numbers were better than Robert Griffin III, the No. 2 overall pick, and Brandon Weeden, the No. 22 pick. No. 1 pick Andrew Luck had the most impressive debut.

Sure, it's just one preseason game. But first impressions are important.

Luck, Griffin III and Weeden will all start for their respective teams as rookies in Week 1. It’s time for the rebuilding Dolphins to follow that trend and start Tannehill, as well.
