With the regular season upon us, it's time to revisit the Jets' brutal schedule to open the season. Here is another look at New York's first five games:
Week 1: vs. Buffalo Bills
Week 2: at Pittsburgh Steelers
Week 3: at Miami Dolphins
Week 4: vs. San Francisco 49ers
Week 5: vs. Houston Texans
Three of the five opponents (Pittsburgh, San Francisco and Houston) made the playoffs last year and are Super Bowl contenders. Also, Buffalo is an up-and-coming team, a division rival and certainly not an easy opponent for New York’s home opener. The Jets will be favored to beat the Dolphins in Week 3, but New York lost to Miami in Sun Life Stadium to end the 2011 regular season.
It’s not a stretch to envision the Jets going as bad as 1-4 in the first five games. But the Jets also have enough talent to go 3-2 or even 4-1 in this stretch if they execute well and stay together as a team.
With so much pressure on the Jets and attention on the quarterback position, these first five games could determine New York’s season. That is why New York’s opener against Buffalo means so much for the Jets.
