It was an interesting start to Week 1 of the regular season. The AFC East went .500, as the New England Patriots (1-0) and New York Jets (1-0) prevailed and the Buffalo Bills (0-1) and Miami Dolphins (0-1) suffered losses.
But who was the most impressive player during the opening week in the division?
Was it Patriots second-year running back Stevan Ridley? He provided balance for the Patriots’ high-powered offense. Ridley rushed for 125 yards and one touchdown. More importantly, he took the pressure off quarterback Tom Brady.
Speaking of quarterbacks, Mark Sanchez of New York was terrific. He played one of the best games of his career, throwing for 266 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in a win over Buffalo. Should Sanchez get player of the week honors?
Bills tailback C.J. Spiller did very well in a losing effort. He rushed for 169 yards and a touchdown on just 12 carries. Miami defensive lineman Randy Starks (six tackles, two sacks) also was stout against the Houston Texans.
