Welcome to Week 2 of the "Sanchez-Fitzpatrick-Tannehill Watch." Each week, we will grade the quarterback performances in the AFC East to determine the No. 2 quarterback in the division at the end of the season.

Mark Sanchez, New York Jets

Result: L, 27-10 at Steelers

Stats: 10-of-27, 138 yards, one TD

QBR: 46.5

Thoughts: This was a dud for Sanchez. There’s no other way to say it. After a fast start, Sanchez had trouble completing a pass in the final three quarters. There were some plays to be had against Pittsburgh but Sanchez was so inaccurate and flustered that it didn’t matter. Sanchez didn’t play well after he took a hard shot from Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons. Another couple of performances like this and Jets fans will be clamoring for Tim Tebow.

Grade: D


Ryan Fitzpatrick, Buffalo Bills

Result: W, 35-17 vs. Chiefs

Stats: 10-of-19, 178 yards, two TDs

QRB: 88.3

Thoughts: "Good Fitz" showed up this week and the Bills won easily. Fitzpatrick is the streakiest quarterback in the NFL but can make good throws when he has momentum. Fitzpatrick let running back C.J. Spiller do most of the heavy lifting. But Fitzpatrick made plays when needed. Just 19 attempts is a low number for Fitzpatrick in this offense.

Grade: B-


Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins

Result: W, 35-13 vs. Raiders

Stats: 18-of-30, 200 yards, two total TDs

QBR: 76.2

Thoughts: Tannehill has a high ceiling. But for now, this is exactly how the Dolphins want him to play. It’s the rookie’s job to hand the ball off to Reggie Bush and make a few key throws when needed. Tannehill did exactly that and it was a great result against the downtrodden Raiders. Tannehill didn’t turn over the football and didn’t have any passes batted at the line of scrimmage.

Grade: B
