It was a banner weekend for the New England Patriots (5-3) and Miami Dolphins (4-3). Both teams earned blowout victories in Week 8.

As a result, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week, and Dolphins rookie Olivier Vernon was the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively. Both players made significant contributions.

Brady was surgical in New England's 45-7 victory against the St. Louis Rams. He threw for 304 yards and four touchdowns. This was the 22nd time Brady won the award in his Hall of Fame career.

Vernon made an impact with a blocked punt recovered for a touchdown and a blocked field goal. Both plays were big in Miami's 30-9 win against the rival New York Jets. This is the first time Vernon has won the award.
