Starting guard Kraig Urbik is expected to sign a multi-year extension with the Buffalo Bills, ESPN.com's AFC East blog has learned. The Bills are hammering out a four-year agreement that should be finalized soon, according to a source.
Urbik, a two-year starter for the Bills, was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March. His versatility has been an asset for the Bills. The 27-year-old can play both guard positions, as well as center if needed.
The AFC East blog also reported several weeks ago that the Bills began preliminary contract discussions with pending free-agent safety Jairus Byrd. No deal with Byrd is imminent. But the proactive approach with Urbik and Byrd shows that the Bills are willing to get an early head start on key members of their 2013 free-agent class.
The Bills (5-9) have two games remaining and will travel to play the Miami Dolphins (6-8) on Sunday.
