The regular season is in the books, and it turns out the New England Patriots are the kings of the drops for 2012.
The Patriots lead the NFL in total offense and scoring. However, dropped passes in their high-tempo offense was one of the few downsides. New England had four players at the top of the drops list.
Here is the final individual drop count for the AFC East:
No. 1: Wes Welker, WR, Patriots, 11
No. 2: Brandon Lloyd, WR, Patriots, 7
No. 3: Aaron Hernandez, TE, Patriots, 6
No. 4 (tie): Rob Gronkowski, TE, Patriots, 5
Welker finished second in the NFL in drops behind New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham (14). But Welker also had a high number of targets (168). The Patriots (12-4) need to clean up their drops in the playoffs. Every play will be crucial toward a Super Bowl run.
