The Buffalo Bills made a somewhat surprising move by re-signing backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson to a one-year, $4.5 million contract. Not only did Buffalo keep Jackson, but rookie head coach Doug Marrone announced Jackson will get a real chance to win the starting job.
That brings us to our latest poll question: Who will be Buffalo’s starting quarterback in 2013?
Will it be Ryan Fitzpatrick? The Bills are 12-20 the past two years under Fitzpatrick and he is due a $3 million roster in bonus in March. If the Bills pay the bonus, Fitzpatrick will enter camp as the incumbent.
What about Jackson? He didn’t play a single game last year, but it’s clear the Bills organization wants to give Jackson a long look. A $4.5 million salary is nothing to sneeze at. The Bills think Jackson can fit into Marrone’s new offense.
Or will Buffalo go with a rookie quarterback next season? The Bills hold the No. 8 overall pick. They could take a top rookie prospect in the first round or wait until the second round to draft a quarterback. Possibilities include Geno Smith of West Virginia, Mike Glennon of N.C. State and Ryan Nassib of Syracuse.
