Maybe Ralph Wilson, Randy Lerner and Al Davis are waiting for one among them to blink first before they can pull the trigger themselves.
Of all the head coaches who fans think deserve to be fired, the ones in their employ rank the highest. In this week's edition of the SportsNation NFL head coach approval ratings, they rank the lowest.
In early balloting, Buffalo Bills coach Dick Jauron, at 7 percent, actually was lower than Oakland Raiders coach Tom Cable on Tuesday morning. It has been a hideous couple of weeks for Cable, who had a 10 percent approval rating as of this posting.
The only coach beneath Jauron was Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini, whose hand-picked front office is being purged body by body.
Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano broke into the top 10 after Sunday's crazy victory over the New York Jets at the Meadowlands. Sparano was at 88 percent despite a 3-4 record, but he hasn't lost an AFC East game yet.
Jets coach Rex Ryan, meanwhile, slipped to 44 percent. That matched his season-low from Week 6. He pulled down a 92 percent after the Jets won their first three games.
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is coming off a bye. He was 12th with an approval rating of 80 percent Tuesday morning.
