The people in our AFC East community have spoken.
I found it interesting when ESPN NFL analyst and quarterback guru Ron Jaworski rated New York Jets embattled quarterback Mark Sanchez over new Buffalo Bills quarterback Kevin Kolb. Sanchez has led the NFL in turnovers the past two seasons. However, both are draft busts.
So I took a poll of our AFC East community to see what they think. Thousands of votes came in, and it was overwhelmingly in favor of Kolb. He is competing with Bills rookie quarterback EJ Manuel for the starting job. Kolb’s biggest issues have been injuries and inconsistency.
Sanchez is competing with New York second-round pick Geno Smith in training camp. In my opinion, Sanchez hasn’t consistently played winning football in two years and it’s time for a change. The Jets are rebuilding and probably won’t win more than six games this year -- with or without Sanchez. It’s best to give Smith, the rookie and quarterback of the future, experience this season.
However, neither Sanchez nor Kolb are the long-term solutions in New York and Buffalo, respectively. But there's a chance both veterans could start in Week 1. Jaworski thinks Sanchez will have more success in 2013, while our community is going with Kolb.
