Jets' Geno Smith rolls ankle, leaves game

August, 9, 2013
DETROIT -- New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith injured his lower right leg and didn't return Friday night in the team's preseason opener against the Detroit Lions.

On the first series of the third quarter, Smith rolled his ankle on an open-field scramble. When he got up, he immediately signaled to the sideline that he had to come out of the game.

He was examined on the sideline, where the training staff removed his cleats and retaped his ankle. He remained on the bench before heading to the locker room.
