For the first time this season, the New York Jets have deactivated pass-rusher Vernon Gholston, nudging last year's sixth-overall draft choice closer to "bust" status.

Jets coach Rex Ryan banged the Gholston drum throughout the summer, telling reporters who hadn't even asked that Gholston was going to be a force. Those words are ringing hollow, sounding more like an attempt at self-fulfilling prophesy.

Gholston started three games while outside linebacker Calvin Pace served a suspension and has played every week until this one. Gholston has 12 tackles, including one for a loss but has zero sacks.
