ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- When constructing a 46-man game-day roster, special teams are a significant consideration.

Along those lines, here is a look at the Patriots players who appeared on two or more of the "Big 4" units (kickoff coverage, kickoff return, punt coverage, punt return) in the season opener:

Four units
LB Jamie Collins
LB Dane Fletcher
WR Matthew Slater
LB Chris White
S Tavon Wilson

Two units
CB Kyle Arrington
DE Michael Buchanan
CB Marquice Cole
FB James Develin
WR Julian Edelman
CB Logan Ryan
RB Shane Vereen

Of the group, the presence of White on all four units was notable. He had been projected as an inactive, which was obviously off the mark. Having claimed White on waivers Sept. 1, it is now clear that the team had special teams-based plans for him in the opener.
