Former Buffalo Bills receiver Andre Reed was a guest of the NFL Network on Friday, discussing his chances to be elected to the Hall of Fame.

Reed was named a finalist for election earlier this month. Voters will meet Saturday to decide the 2014 class, which will be announced at 8 p.m.

Here's part of Reed's comments Friday:

On if he will be elected this season: "I'm ready every year. I was talking to [NFL Network analyst] Willie [McGinest] off-camera. I mean, we talk about this every year. I can't do anything about it. All I did was what I did on the field. That's documented. Everybody that's there is deserving, there's no doubt about it. My peers, other players that are on that list. If you get on the ballot, you're deserving. I'm humbled just to be in that position."

On if Cris Carter's election opens door for Reed: "Well, of course it opens the door. That's our era, that's my era. I'm Tim [Brown], Cris, Jerry [Rice], Michael Irvin. That's our era. You can't deny that, what we did. It's amazing now that Marvin [Harrison] is in the mix now. Marvin's with Randy [Moss], and T.O. [Terrell Owens], and Hines Ward and all these other guys are going to be coming up. It's a different game. It's a different game right now."

On potential to join Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas, matching Dallas Cowboys' 'triplets': "Yeah, I think you look at what Michael [Irvin] and Troy [Aikman] and Emmitt [Smith] did in Dallas, and I saw Emmitt last night as a matter of fact, and he even said to me, 'You guys were the us of the AFC. There's no doubt about it.' I mean, if you pit both of our offenses together -- I mean, we ran the no-huddle -- but we were the same type of guys. Same type. I played [with] Hall of Famers. We wouldn't have done what we did without Thurman Thomas, without Jim Kelly, without that offensive line. You know, you're only as good as the people around you. I relished in that kind of offense, because those guys expected a lot out of me at one o'clock every Sunday, and that's the way I approached the game. My passion for the game was one o'clock, every Sunday, you know what you were going to get from me and I expect the same out of you. That's the way I look at it."

On why he is 'pessimistic' about chances: "I'm really not ... I'm more optimistic this year than previous years. I think right now. [Is it the family or the pressure?] I think it's that, man. The family, they might be watching back home. They have a party every year, they do this every year, and I want this for them so much more than myself. I think it's ... you talk about validation or what your career is about. You only can get to this pinnacle ... there's only 275 guys that are here. To be on this stage at this time is definitely, it speaks volumes."

On what call would mean to Reed: "[Tears?] Of course. Deacon Jones -- rest in peace, Deacon -- he always said 'When you get there, I guarantee you're going to cry.' I said, 'No I'm not.' And he said, 'Yeah, you will.' I'll think about my dad who is up there too and all the games that he was at and how he supported me, and all the people that watched me since I was 8 years old, with a helmet on. And you try to put that all in one emotion, it's going to be hard to do, definitely."
