AccuScore means many things to many people.
For some, it's a source for predicting game outcomes. To others, it's a reality check for your team's playoff chances. For a few, it's another opportunity to catch Jenny Dell video clips on the AFC East blog.
To give a sense of where teams stand, every now and again I take AccuScore's latest projections, round off the win totals and forecast the upcoming playoff field and draft order for 2010.
Before we get to those lists, let's take a look at how AccuScore rates the playoff hopes of AFC East clubs. This is not a measurement of how mathematically alive each team is, rather a realistic expectation based on complex computations that factor trends and remaining schedules.
AccuScore pegs the Miami Dolphins' chances of qualifying for the postseason at 11.0 percent and winning the division at 5.2 percent. You can see how Sunday's loss to the Buffalo Bills hurt the Dolphins when you consider a week ago they were given a 27 percent chance to reach the playoffs.
The New York Jets are at 4.9 percent and 1.8 percent.
Buffalo is given a 0.5 percent chance at the playoffs and 0.1 percent at the division. AccuScore gave the Bills no shot to win the division a week ago, so they're headed in the right direction.
Projected AFC playoff field
1. St. Louis Rams
2. Cleveland Browns
3. Detroit Lions
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
5. Oakland Raiders
6. Washington Redskins
7. Kansas City Chiefs
8. Carolina Panthers

10. Buffalo Bills
11. Chicago Bears
12. New York Jets
13. Miami Dolphins
