Favre runs 27 yards on tone-setting drive
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- It wouldn't have mattered who won the coin toss because Buffalo Bills coach Dick Jauron always defers.
The New York Jets won the flip, though, and elected to receive, choosing to set an ominous tone for the rest of the AFC East. The Jets drove 72 yards on seven plays to take a 7-0 lead 3:09 into Sunday's game at the Meadowlands.
The Jets have lost two in a row but are tied with the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots atop the division at 8-5. The Dolphins host the San Francisco 49ers. The Patriots are at the Oakland Raiders.
Favre got around the left end with nobody near him, giving an initial impression he would go the 41-yard distance. Then we quickly remembered it was Favre.
Three plays later, Thomas Jones bowled into the end zone from 2 yards out.
The play gave Jones 15 touchdowns, including 13 rushing TDs, and at least one in eight straight games -- all franchise records.
