No surprise: Ryan reiterates Super goal
If Rex Ryan makes a bold statement about winning the Super Bowl, is it really newsworthy anymore? Is anybody surprised?
No one should find it remarkable, but Ryan's proclamations are fun for Jets fans, Jets haters and AFC East followers to talk about.
In an appearance Monday on New York sports-radio station ESPN 1050, host Michael Kay asked Ryan about Tom Brady's flattering comments regarding the Jets on SI.com.
"He's a smart guy," Ryan said. "As I put it, it's on. We're not afraid of that. We're making sure everybody knows it, that we plan of being the team that wins the division this year."
The Patriots have finished with the AFC East's best record nine straight seasons, although they've lost the division twice (in 2002 and 2008) on tiebreakers.
"We know it's going to be a great challenge," Ryan said. "We're working so hard in the offseason. I think we've gotten better in the offseason as far as the personnel is concerned. We added a lot of guys that I think will help us.
"We have only one goal and that's to win the Super Bowl. And that's what we plan on doing this year."
