Pat White shows at Dolphins camp

What's going on with Miami Dolphins quarterback Pat White?

Miami's front office isn't big on dramatic uncertainties at any point in the season and especially wants all of its porpoises in a row for the start of training camp.

White's mysterious absence when camp started Friday was followed up by a report in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that White would be placed on the physically unable-to-perform list and would miss all of camp and maybe the entire season with "a non-football related issue that is described as serious."

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano declined to impart information about White's absence, adding to the mystery.

Then White showed up Saturday morning and took most of the third-team reps. Afterward, White was all smiles and signed autographs.

The Sun-Sentinel spoke with White's brother in their hometown of Daphne, Ala.

"I couldn't tell you what day he's going to be out there or when he's going to be back on the field," Bo White Jr. told Sun-Sentinel reporter Mike Berardino. "Being a young man, he's just trying to find -- I'm trying to put this in the best way -- I guess his position in life. I think that may have something to do with it. Just life, you know, in general."

Web sites wondered if White was leaving football to play baseball. He had a difficult rookie season after the Dolphins selected him in the second round last year. During the offseason, he created a commotion when he tweeted he would rather quit football and play baseball than change positions.

He was selected in the Major League Baseball draft four times: fourth round by the Los Angeles Angels in 2006, 24th round by the Angels in 2007, seventh round by the Cincinnati Reds in 2008 and the 48th round by the New York Yankees in 2009.
