Report: Brady in contact with Branch
By Tim Graham
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick shot down -- or at least tried to -- any suggestion quarterback Tom Brady had any say in the team's decision to trade receiver Randy Moss.
At a Thursday news conference, Belichick flatly said "Tom doesn't make personnel decisions," and "Tom is a player."
But he's not just any player. Brady is the face of the franchise, and he has juice at Gillette Stadium.
The Boston Globe reported Friday that Brady was aware a Moss trade was in the works and has been in frequent contact with Seattle Seahawks receiver Deion Branch about a reunion. Branch, the MVP of Super Bowl XXXIX was a big-play target for Brady before Moss came along in 2007.
NFC West blogger Mike Sando has broken down a potential Branch deal, noting the Patriots have eight draft choices within the first four rounds to peddle.
Danny O'Neil of the Seattle Times reported the Patriots have been in casual discussions with the Seahawks about acquiring Branch since February.
