A panel of "188 Hall of Famers, championship coaches and other experts" convened by The Sporting News ranked Don Shula fifth on a list of the greatest coaches of any sport -- behind John Wooden, Vince Lombardi, Bear Bryant and Phil Jackson.
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick ranked 20th, a number that becomes even more impressive when you notice some of the names behind him: Adolph Rupp, Bill Walsh, Connie Mack and Amos Alonzo Stagg.
Bill Parcells, representing the Dolphins, Patriots and New York Jets, among others, came in at No. 33.
The roll call of TSN's panelists is impressive.
As a boxing fan, I would like to have seen Eddie Futch on the list. Southern California baseball coach Rod Dedeaux (1,332 wins and 10 College World Series titles) also deserved it.
But what fun is a list like this if there's no debate?
