Nugent injury forcing Jets to go for 2
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- New York Jets kicker Mike Nugent is standing on the sideline, his helmet buckled and hands on hips.
But the Jets are operating as though Nugent is unavailable.
Nugent came up gimpy after missing a 32-yard field-goal attempt with 3:31 left in the first quarter, but didn't seek immediate medical attention. An announcement was made in the press box that Nugent has a thigh injury, and his return is questionable.
But the Jets, faced with a fourth-and-13 situation from the Dolphins' 22-yard line, went for it. Jets QB Brett Favre escaped what appeared to be a certain sack and threw a jump ball that WR Chansi Stuckey caught just inside the goal line for a touchdown and a 13-7 lead.
The Jets then went for the two-point conversion and failed (an incomplete Favre pass). Punter Ben Graham kicked off. Poorly. He kicked 43 yards off the tee.
