Poll: Third Pro Bowl QB in AFC?
By James Walker
One of the hottest topics in the AFC East blog Thursday is whether New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez deserves to make the Pro Bowl. The responses range from laughter to some readers realizing it's possible.
So we want to further that discussion and let our AFC East readers decide. If you were voting for the third Pro Bowl quarterback behind locks Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger in the AFC, who would you choose?
Should it be Sanchez? Despite a ton of criticism, he's on pace to set new career highs in nearly every major category. Sanchez has thrown for 2,859 yards, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He has a respectable passer rating of 83.1. Sanchez is potentially leading the Jets to their third consecutive postseason appearance if the team continues to win out.
What about the extremely polarizing Tim Tebow? The Denver Broncos quarterback doesn't make it pretty. But the results have been spectacular. He's 7-1 as a starter this season and has thrown for 1,290 yards and rushed for 517 additional yards. Tebow has accounted for 14 combined touchdowns.
San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has a name. Should he get the Pro Bowl nod for the fourth time in his career? Rivers is having a down year for San Diego (6-7), throwing for 3,745 yards, 22 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
Finally, is Joe Flacco of the Baltimore Ravens deserving? Flacco isn't having his best year. But the Ravens (10-3) could win the AFC North title for the first time under Flacco. He's thrown for 3,122 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
If you're trying to be "Homer of the Week," you can vote "other" for guys like Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick or Matt Moore of the Miami Dolphins. But I know you're smarter than that.
