Dolphins win coin toss for No. 8 pick
By James Walker
There will be plenty of coin tosses during football games in the regular season. But the Miami Dolphins won their first and only one of the offseason on Friday at the NFL combine.
The Dolphins won their coin flip with the Carolina Panthers to secure the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL draft. Both teams finished with 6-10 records and similar strength of schedules. The Panthers will hold the No. 9 pick.
This may not seem like much, but every bit helps for Miami. The Dolphins are trying to turn their franchise around under rookie head coach Joe Philbin. This is Miami's highest draft pick since 2008, when the team selected left tackle Jake Long with the No. 1 overall pick.
Miami has several needs entering this year's draft, including quarterback, safety and right tackle.
