Mario Williams tops AFC East Forbes list
By James Walker
Which player is raking in the most dough this past year in the AFC East? It's not that three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback from New England, or the best cornerback in the NFL who plays for the New York Jets.
According to Forbes magazine, Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams was the highest-paid athlete in the division over the past 12 months. He also was 16th in all of sports.
Williams made $33.2 million this past year. That number was helped, of course, by a $19 million signing bonus he received in his $100 million contract with Buffalo.
Williams was one of six AFC East players to make Forbes' list of the 100 highest-paid athletes. Here's the AFC East contingent:
- No. 16: DE Mario Williams, Bills, $33.2 million
- No. 28: QB Tom Brady, Patriots, $27.1 million
