Dolphins not ready to make QB call

By James Walker

The regular season starts exactly three weeks for the Miami Dolphins. But they still need more time to make their quarterback decision.

"That's still up in the air," Miami coach Joe Philbin said Sunday. "We certainly haven't come to any decision on that."

The Dolphins returned to practice after losing their second straight preseason game over the weekend. Philbin said in the spring that he aims to make the quarterback call by the end of the third preseason game. So there is a chance Miami will know its starter between Ryan Tannehill and Matt Moore at the end of the week when the Dolphins host the Atlanta Falcons.

We think the decision is simple: Miami should stick with Tannehill. The rookie is outperforming Moore in practice and in games. Tannehill made his first NFL start Friday against Carolina and was 11-of-23 for 100 yards. He didn't light it up but was still better than Moore, who was 5-of-15 for 57 yards.

Tannehill is clearly the quarterback of the future in Miami and will only get better. This is a rebuilding year for the Dolphins, who are not expected to make the playoffs. The most important thing Miami can do is groom its franchise quarterback.
