'Countdown' crew wonders what's up with Brady
Posted by ESPN.com's Tim Graham
The crew on ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown" discussed New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's pedestrian play through five games.
I broached the subject Friday morning in a blog that compared Tom Terrific to Average Joe. That post generated a lot of response in the comments section and in the AFC East mailbag.
Studio analysts Tom Jackson, Cris Carter and Keyshawn Johnson gave their take Sunday.
Carter: "Is Tom Brady the same quarterback? He looks the same, but the results, they’re not the same."
Jackson: "There’s now two, three plays per game where you just don’t see the same guy. This is going to be somewhere down the road before they are [the same team] and he is the same guy."
Johnson: "He looks the same to me. But at the same time, when you look at [former coordinator] Josh McDaniels being gone from the offense, that’s something Tom Brady needs to get used to -- somebody different callings plays, setting things up differently, when you’re hearing different voices in your ear. Plus, Randy Moss has been banged up a little bit. Wes Welker’s been banged up a bit. It’s a long season."
