QBR: Patriots QB Tom Brady back on top
By James Walker
The New England Patriots have struggled to win close games this season. The reigning AFC champs were 0-3 in games decided by three points or fewer heading into Sunday’s matchup against the New York Jets.
But Patriots quarterback Tom Brady refused to let his team lose to the rival Jets in the clutch in Week 7. He led two crucial scoring drives at the end of regulation and overtime to earn New England a 29-26 win over New York.
Brady’s clutch play earned him the highest QBR (72.1) in the AFC East for Week 7. Here is how the entire division fared:
I thought Sanchez got the short end of the final scoring. He played his best game in weeks, throwing for 328 yards, one touchdown and one interception against New England. Sanchez saved his best play for the fourth quarter when he led the Jets to 13 unanswered points to force overtime. The late fumble to end the game probably hurt his final rating.
Fitzpatrick kept the Bills afloat but will be most remembered for his late interception in the fourth quarter that led to Tennessee’s game-winning drive. Fitzpatrick can be very streaky and it showed up again in a crucial moment.
