QBR: Greg McElroy tops in AFC East
By James Walker
We have a surprise player to the AFC East quarterback party.
New York Jets quarterback Greg McElroy made a stunning debut in place of longtime starter Mark Sanchez, who was benched. McElroy came in during the second half and threw New York’s only touchdown in a 7-6 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
McElroy’s clutch performance earned him a high rating.
Here is the Total QBR for the AFC East:
- No. 1: McElroy, Jets, 95.9
- No. 2: Ryan Fitzpatrick, Buffalo Bills, 78.6
- No. 3: Tom Brady, New England Patriots, 53.5
- No. 4: Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins, 14.3
- No. 5: Sanchez, Jets, 4.4
Fitzpatrick’s three-touchdown performance (two passing, one rushing) was key in Buffalo’s 34-18 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brady had one of his worst outings of the season but was still good enough to beat the Miami Dolphins.
Miami rookie quarterback Tannehill couldn’t produce enough offense in a big game and his clutch rating impacted his QBR. Sanchez was horrible and threw three interceptions in the first half. He needed the benching to avoid having a worst day.
