Poll Friday: Bills and Geno Smith?
By James Walker
The Buffalo Bills, who hold the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL draft, are hosting a private workout for West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith on Friday. It's clear the Bills are interested in the top-rated quarterback in the draft. They have a huge need there after cutting former starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Should the Bills draft Smith in the first round? There are reasons to be optimistic and pessimistic about this potential move.
Smith is coming off a tremendous pro day where he connected on 60-of-64 throws. He solidified his spot as the No. 1 quarterback in the draft, and that is Buffalo's biggest need. Smith also would have a strong chance of beating out Tarvaris Jackson for the starting job with the Bills in training camp. Should Buffalo draft Smith if he's available at No. 8?
Or should the Bills pass on Smith? This year’s quarterback class is shaky, and the Bills could use their top pick to fill other needs. There are other possible quarterback options in the second round, such as Ryan Nassib and Mike Glennon. Smith is a boom-or-bust pick who could be too risky at No. 8.
