Darrelle Revis trade almost complete
By James Walker
The long and drawn out Darrelle Revis saga is nearing an end.
ESPNNewYork.com’s Rich Cimini reports the New York Jets have an agreement in principle with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for star cornerback Darrelle Revis, pending a successful physical. Revis is coming off a season-ending knee injury and the Buccaneers must be happy with his progress for the trade to go through.
The compensation is unknown, but it would include the Tampa Bay's No. 13 overall pick. That would give New York the No. 9 and No. 13 overall picks in Thursday's NFL draft, in addition to picks in the later rounds.
Some Jets fans will be upset with New York trading its best player. But in the long run, the Jets had no choice. Revis is an unrestricted free agent in 2014 and the Jets can no longer afford him. New York is better off getting something for Revis now instead of losing him next season for zero compensation. This is a deep draft and two picks in the first round should pay immediate dividends.
