Bills surprise with QB Manuel
By James Walker
For weeks, the Buffalo Bills sent out various smokescreens that they were very interested in taking quarterbacks Ryan Nassib or Matt Barkley. Even Geno Smith was in the mix for the Bills.
However, Buffalo pulled off one of the surprises of the first round by taking Florida State quarterback EJ Manuel at No. 16 overall. Manuel, surprisingly, was the first quarterback off the board in the NFL draft.
Buffalo moved down in the trade with the St. Louis Rams. The Bills were wise not to take a quarterback at No. 8, but is Manuel the right choice? That will be highly debated over the next few weeks.
Manuel brings much-needed mobility to Buffalo’s new-look offense under coach Doug Marrone. He will compete with veteran quarterbacks Kevin Kolb and Tarvaris Jackson in training camp, but Manuel will eventually be viewed as the long-term solution for the Bills.
