By James Walker

DAVIE, Fla. – Miami Dolphins cornerback Dimitri Patterson returned to practice Wednesday after missing one session Tuesday. Patterson recorded two interceptions in a Week 1 victory over the Cleveland Browns but strained his groin in the third quarter.

Patterson didn’t finish the game but said he feels optimistic about his chances to play Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

“I felt good about what I was able to do today,” Patterson said. “I feel good where I’m at.”

When asked if he thinks he will be ready to go, Patterson responded “Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. When you’re dealing with these muscular injuries, you don’t want to rush yourself back too fast because you don’t want to aggravated it. ... Or you can get to Sunday without aggravating it. That’s what the staff here is making sure to do with me.”

Cornerback depth is an issues for Miami’s defense -- that’s why Patterson’s presence is so important. Backup Nolan Carroll will start in the event Patterson cannot play.

The Dolphins’ secondary will face a stiff test against Andrew Luck and the Colts. Last season, Luck lit up Miami’s secondary for an NFL-rookie-record 433 yards and two touchdowns in a 23-20 Indianapolis victory.
