Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill for MVP?
By James Walker
DAVIE, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins (3-0) are off to a red-hot start, and the growth of second-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill is the biggest reason for the team’s success.
Should that put Tannehill in the NFL's MVP conversation?
ESPN.com’s Dan Graziano has Tannehill on his weekly “MVP Watch” that you can check out here. Tannehill is rated No. 6 behind quarterbacks Jay Cutler, Russell Wilson, Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning. It’s stunning that Tannehill is being mentioned in the same sentence with players such as Brees, Brady and Manning, but the statistics make it logical.
Tannehill has thrown for 827 yards, four touchdowns and has a 66.4 completion percentage. Tannehill’s 94.3 passer rating is better than Brees (91.4) and Brady (79.4) after three games. Tannehill also has head-to-head victories over Andrew Luck and Matt Ryan this season. This week, Tannehill will face Brees and the New Orleans Saints in a huge game on “Monday Night Football.”
Tannehill’s growth has been a nice story. The Dolphins are arguably the biggest surprise in the NFL. But Tannehill must continue to play at an MVP level for Miami to continue its run.
