Dolphins report: Ellerbe not practicing
By James Walker
DAVIE, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins (3-2) returned to the practice field Friday after a day off. Miami will host the Buffalo Bills (2-4) in a big AFC East matchup.
Here are notes and observations from practice:
- Dolphins starting middle linebacker Dannell Ellerbe worked on the side with trainers for the fourth straight practice during the portion open to the media. Ellerbe expressed optimism at various times during the week, but he is suffering through a shoulder injury. It appears he won’t be ready to play by Sunday.
- Pro Bowl defensive end Cameron Wake was full-go again and should see a lot of snaps against Buffalo. Wake (knee) practiced without his brace in the walkthrough, which is a sign that he is close to 100 percent.
- Dolphins cornerback Dimitri Patterson (groin) practiced for the fourth time in some capacity this week. If Patterson returns Sunday, he could be limited to sub packages. Patterson arguably is Miami's best corner for the slot.
- There are still only 52 players on Miami’s roster. The Dolphins cut defensive lineman Marvin Austin on Tuesday and have not claimed or signed a replacement. The most likely addition would be another offensive lineman, but it's curious that 72 hours have gone by without an official move.
